Vision for the Role: The General Store Clerk plays a vital role in fostering a supportive and fun atmosphere at camp by helping provide snacks, drinks, souvenirs, and basic supplies for campers and guests at Hume’s General Store. This individual provides general help and assistance in providing quality products and customer service with a joyful and servant-hearted demeanor.

The Role: 

  • Staff Oversight: Assist in supervising seasonal and part-time staff by leading shifts, checking in with staff, providing training, and ensuring that store procedures and company policies are followed. This individual is expected to work in a team environment and independently to meet the various demands of the store. 
  • Guest Experience and store operations: Individual is required to interact with guests face-to-face in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible and pleasant. Must make decisions with the overall “customer experience” in mind and be able to handle customers in adverse situations if it arises while maintaining an agreeable disposition. Responsible for floor and back-room stocking levels, cash register operations, cleaning procedures, and customer issue resolution.  
  • Inventory and Merchandising: Responsible for receiving inventory, managing back stock, and prepping products for sale. This includes entering received and counted inventory into a point-of-sale system, communicating with the General Store supervisor of items that are out of stock or running low. 
  • Cash Management: Responsible for cash management of money in the stores. This includes performing turn ins, managing safe access, and minimizing theft risk from both guests and staff. Promote an environment where financial stewardship is a key store priority for all staff. 
  • Follow all safety procedures and directions provided by supervisors.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude, contributing to a Christ-centered team environment.
  • Represent Hume Christian Camps’ values and mission through conduct, attitude, and service.


Our Ideal Candidate: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at start of employment to live in staff housing; or must be a High School graduate who is a dependent resident of Hume Lake in either subdivision or staff housing.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Willingness to perform physical tasks and work outdoors or indoors as needed.
  • Experience in customer service preferred.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work under supervision.
  • Must agree with and support Hume Christian Camps’ Statement of Faith.
  • Must have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a desire to share the Gospel through word and deed.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to live and work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to live at high altitude and in small living quarters.

Other: Perform other related duties and assignments as required; Hume Lake maintains the right to reassign or change duties as required. 

Work Schedule

  • Schedule and hours may vary depending on project needs.
  • May include weekends or evenings as assigned.
  • Must not exceed 29 hours a week.

Salary: Hourly, $16.90
