Vision for the Role: The Hume New England Development Officer serves as Hume New England’s primary external relationship builder and regional ambassador, cultivating churches, major donors, ministry partners, alumni, foundations, and community leaders throughout New England and surrounding states. Working closely with the Hume New England Site Director and the Development Team, this position expands the ministry by increasing camp attendance, growing financial support through annual and major gifts, and developing strategic partnerships. The role strengthens the ministry today while building a sustainable pipeline of future supporters.

The Role:

  • Builds, manages, and grows a portfolio of approximately 150–200 qualified major donor prospects, developing individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies for each assigned donor.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards gifts of $10,000+, with an emphasis on increasing transformational giving; partners with executive leadership and volunteer leaders on significant gift opportunities.
  • Conducts regular in-person donor visits throughout New England and surrounding regions.
  • Increases unrestricted giving through the Hume Fund and other annual ministry priorities by developing annual giving strategies that engage alumni, parents, campers, churches, and ministry friends.
  • Promotes camperships, operational needs, and strategic ministry initiatives, and executes stewardship plans that deepen donor engagement and retention.
  • Serves as Hume New England’s primary ambassador throughout the region, representing Hume’s Christian mission and ministry at conferences, church and ministry gatherings, and community events.
  • Develops relationships with pastors, churches, Christian business leaders, foundations, and organizations, and pursues corporate sponsorships and ministry partnerships aligned with Hume’s mission to increase both camp participation and regional awareness of Hume New England.
  • Supports regional fundraising and awareness events — including awareness luncheons, donor gatherings, vision dinners, alumni events, capital campaign events, and church appreciation events — partnering with the Development Team to identify prospects and maximize engagement before, during, and after each event.
  • Documents donor interactions, moves management, and next steps in Virtuous CRM, and provides regular activity reports and progress toward annual goals.
  • Collaborates closely with the Senior Director of Development, Executive Director, Development Team, and Hume New England leadership, including the Hume New England Site Director.
  • Participates in campaign planning and ministry-wide fundraising initiatives.

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout New England and surrounding states.
  • Exceptional communication and listening skills.
  • Strong organization and discipline, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and follow through with excellence.
  • Ability to think strategically while executing consistently, and to build trusted relationships with donors, pastors, volunteers, campers, alumni, and ministry partners.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and integrity, including in the handling of confidential donor information.
  • Experience in ministry, nonprofit leadership, fundraising, sales, marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: major gift fundraising, church ministry or pastoral leadership, Christian camping, relationship-based sales, business development, nonprofit development, event planning, or volunteer leadership.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Travels regularly by vehicle throughout New England and surrounding states to meet with donors, churches, and ministry partners and to attend events.
  • Communicates effectively in person, by phone, and in writing, including speaking with and presenting to groups at events and gatherings.
  • Remains in a stationary position and operates a computer and standard office equipment, including CRM software, for extended periods.
  • Moves about event venues and occasionally transports event materials up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Work environment: a combination of office work at Hume New England, donor homes and offices, churches, and event venues. The schedule may include evenings and weekends to accommodate donor meetings and development events.
