Vision for the Role: The Grounds Assistant  maintains the roads, grounds, and public-facing property of Hume Christian Camps, operating lawn and grounds equipment to keep camp facilities safe, clean, and welcoming for guests and staff. This position performs a variety of landscaping, upkeep, and light equipment-operation duties and must be prepared to meet the spiritual needs of guests.

The Role:

Grounds & Facility Maintenance

• Maintain lawns, gardens, trails, and grounds throughout camp property by mowing, trimming, weeding, watering, and general landscaping upkeep.
• Perform routine upkeep of roads, walkways, and public areas, including litter removal, minor repairs, and seasonal cleanup.
• Assist with snow removal and winter-weather preparedness given Hume Lake’s high-altitude location.
• Report facility and grounds issues to the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager in a timely manner.

Equipment Operation & Safety

• Safely operate lawn and grounds equipment (mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and similar), tractors, and utility vehicles appropriate to assigned tasks.
• Perform basic cleaning and maintenance of equipment; report malfunctions or needed repairs promptly.
• Follow all safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment, and maintain a safe work environment for guests and staff.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record to operate camp vehicles and equipment as needed.

Faith Requirement (Essential Qualification)

As a Christian ministry, Hume Christian Camps requires that all employees be professing Christians who affirm and live in agreement with the organization’s Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct. Adherence to and modeling of the Christian faith is a bona fide occupational qualification and an essential requirement of this position.

• Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with the organization’s Statement of Faith.
• Agrees to and abides by the organization’s Statement of Faith, Code of Conduct, and lifestyle/community standards.
• Evidence of a commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to share the knowledge of Jesus Christ with guests and staff.

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

• Experience in landscaping, gardening, or grounds maintenance, with basic knowledge of lawn and grounds equipment operation.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must be a team player, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Possesses a friendly, service-oriented attitude toward guests and staff.
• Must be able to live in available Hume Lake housing or provide private accommodations.
• Willing and able to work outdoors in all seasons, including extreme weather and high-altitude conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to operate small trucks, tractors, and utility vehicles.

Physical Requirements: 

• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Must be able to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods on uneven or rugged terrain.
• Must be able to live and work in extreme weather conditions and at high altitude.
